Easy victories for Wakrah and Rayyan 17/2/2015

Anthony Coleman scored a game-high 35 points but still ended up on the losing side as Al Wakrah thrashed Al Khor 95-75 in the Qatar Basketball League at the Al Gharafa Indoor Hall yesterday.
Coleman was on the court for the full 40 minutes during which he tormented his rivals but Al Khor’s defence was found wanting, especially in the second quarter, allowing Al Wakrah to nail the contest with considerable ease.

Al Wakrah just managed to edge their rivals (21-20) at the end of the first quarter but surged ahead to lead 46-31 in the second after which Al Khor simply gave up the fight.
Adamu Saaka led the charge for Al Wakrah with 33 points, which included 26 from field goals and seven from free throws, while Mohamed Abdulrahman also excelled with 27.
Mohamed Ouri with 20 points and Rashaad Singleton with 20 completed the Al Khor rout.
Although Al Khor scored 16 points from turnovers as opposed to 12 by Al Wakrah, they were behind in all other aspects of the game. Al Wakrah shot 66 points in the paint compared to Al Khor’s 38 and had 25 second chance points as against 11 by their rivals.
“They gave us a good fight in the first quarter but we pulled up our socks after that and never looked back,” said Al Wakrah coach Ihab Galal.
“It’s wins like this that increases the confidence of the team,” he added.
In the second match of the evening, Al Rayyan proved far too strong for Al Ahli, winning 93-72.
Aloysius Ewing Jr. led Al Rayyan’s charge with 21 points, while Dominic Davon and Armond Bolds had 19 each.
Al Rayyan, Qatar’s leading basketball team, held an 18-15 lead after the first half which they steadily kept improving to eventually win the match with ease.
Qatar legend Yaseen Ismail Musa scored 11 points for the winners as Al Rayyan excelled with 48 points in the paint and 21 from turnovers.
For Al Ahli, Tyrone McNeal shot 32, with 26 coming from field goals and the remainder from free throws. Consteveous Jefferson was second best for the losers with 15 points.
El Jaish lead the standings with 25 points from 13 matches, while Al Rayyan are a close second on 24 from as many games.
