QBF, QF sign a collaboration agreement

The Qatar Basketball Federation and Qatar Foundation have joined hands in a bid to step up the sport developmental work at various levels.

Both QBF and QF inked an agreement at the former’s headquarters in Al Gharafa on Monday. QBF Secretary-General Mohammed Mohammed Ali Hobash al Marri and QF’s

Faisal Dossari signed the related papers. Also present on the occasion were QBF Executive Director Saadoun al Kuwari and QF’s Fahad al Darwish.

The QBF has launched a few initiatives to build a strong grass-root base in Qatar. The agreement between the QBF and QF is also a part of these drives to not only engage the kids into healthy exercise but also develop talent pools in different age groups.

Talking about the partnership, the QBF Secertay-General Marri said, “The QBF has started initiatives like ‘Basketball for Each Park,’ ‘Basketball for Each School,’ ‘Basketball for Each Kid,’ and ‘Basketball for Each Talented Youngster’ to provide competition and training to different age-groups.

“We’re keen to catch young kids and train them. The Qatar Foundation has got a plenty of young talent. This agreement will definitely help us get a lot of promising players in the future.

“We have already an ongoing programme with the Qatar Foundation and our coaches have been training their players. But under this specific agreement, we will work together to have a good under-19 team in the Qatar Foundation,” Marri added.

Dossari expressed his happiness with the new collaboration with the QBF and said, “The Qatar Foundation is already involved into preparing its teams in various sports. We’ve about 150 registered basketball players in the entire QF community. We’re playing in different leagues under the QBF.

“We’re very happy to get the vital support from the QBF. Earlier, we focused on forming the under-10, under-12 and under-14 teams. But now, we’ll try to raise our under-19 team. I’m sure the agreement with the QBF will go a long way in helping us achieve this goal,” Dossari added.

Alex Rosca of Qatar Foundation said that the QF is also planning to be part of the School Olympic Program from next year. “We’ve many competitive teams and we’ll be part of the School Olympic Program from the next season so that we can contribute towards raising the competition levels,” he said.
