Qatar SC Challenges Al Sadd.. Al Khor Faces Al Wakrah in the League

Doha – January 13, 2026:
Excitement and competition continue in the Qatar General Basketball League for the 2025-2026 sports season with the matches of Round 14 in the Second Division. Basketball fans are anticipating strong and decisive encounters that could bring noticeable changes to the teams’ standings before entering the decisive phase.
On Wednesday evening, January 14, 2026, Al Rayyan Hall will host the first matchup, pitting Qatar Club against Al Sadd at 7:00 PM. This promises to be a thrilling game between two teams eager to strengthen their positions in the league table.
Qatar Club, currently in eighth place with 15 points from 13 matches, aims to secure a win that improves its standing and boosts its chances in the competition—especially after disappointing results this season.
Meanwhile, Al Sadd, in fourth place with 22 points, seeks to solidify its spot in the top four (the golden square) and maintain pressure on the title holders, Al Arabi, who sit in second place with 24 points.
In the second match, also at Al Rayyan Hall at 9:00 PM, Al Khor will face Al Wakrah in another important clash. Al Khor is looking for only its second win of the tournament after 11 losses, hoping to improve its last-place position in the standings. On the other hand, Al Wakrah, in fifth place with 19 points, hopes for a victory to enhance its chances of entering the golden square—a goal now shared by all competing teams with only a few rounds remaining before the “Play-In” stage.
The round concludes with a single match on Thursday evening, January 15, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Al Gharafa Hall, between Al Shamal and Al Rayyan.
League leaders Al Rayyan, with 25 points, see this fixture as an opportunity to strengthen their top spot and pull further ahead of their pursuers. Al Shamal, in seventh place with 15 points, hopes for a win to lift morale ahead of the decisive matches.
Separately, defending champions Al Arabi have a bye this round and will return to action in the opening of Round 15 on January 17, 2026, facing Al Khor. On the same day, Al Sadd will meet Al Ahli.
This season features a new system that adds significant excitement, with the introduction of a “Play-In” tournament involving teams from third to sixth place. This gives golden-square teams an additional chance to compete and secure results that ensure their continuation in the battle for the title.
January 31, 2026, has been set for two decisive Play-In matches: the third-placed team faces the fourth in a direct qualification match for a semifinal spot, while the fifth faces the sixth. The winner of the latter then plays a playoff against the loser of the first match to determine the second team advancing to the semifinals.
With this structure, the picture is clear: competition is fierce among leaders Al Rayyan, Al Arabi, Al Ahli, and Al Sadd, while Al Wakrah, Al Gharafa, and Al Shamal aim to strengthen their positions. Meanwhile, Qatar Club and Al Khor are working to improve their chances with crucial matches remaining before the season ends.
Round 14 represents an important turning point in the teams’ journeys, as they begin precise calculations of their standings ahead of the Play-In matches—which will serve as a true stage for competing to reach the semifinals and ultimately claim the season’s title.
