The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) organized the inaugural Basketball Coaching Workshop on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in collaboration with the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum and physical education teachers from government schools, with the participation of Italian basketball club Reyer Venezia Mestre. The workshop forms part of a comprehensive program aimed at enhancing coaching skills and identifying promising basketball talents at an early age.
The workshop brought together members of the Qatari basketball community, including coaches of the men’s, women’s, and youth national teams, as well as representatives of the Italian club. The event provided a valuable platform for exchanging expertise and exploring the latest coaching methodologies used in player development across various age groups.
On this occasion, Abdullah Yousef Al-Mulla, Director of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of the initiative in supporting talent identification efforts and developing students’ basketball abilities. He emphasized that strengthening cooperation between sports and educational institutions helps create a supportive environment that encourages students to participate in basketball and develop their skills from an early age.
The workshop program featured a range of fundamental basketball techniques and skills, alongside practical coaching sessions focused on improving coaching methods and enhancing the ability to identify students with promising athletic potential and basketball aptitude. These efforts contribute to building a broader talent pool for the sport in Qatar.
As part of the program, participants also visited Aspire Academy to continue the practical component of the training and benefit from its expertise and specialized facilities dedicated to player development across different age groups.
Beginning Monday, September 21, 2026, the initiative will move into its talent identification phase, which will continue through Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The program targets students in Grades 4, 5, and 6, typically aged between 9 and 12 years, through field visits to government primary schools.
A total of 14 boys’ and girls’ primary schools are participating in the program:

The program involves 44 male and female teachers from the participating schools. The targeted student groups include Grades 4, 5, and 6, in accordance with the approved schedule for each school.
The talent identification process is being conducted jointly by Reyer Venezia Mestre, the Qatar Basketball Federation, and physical education teachers from participating schools. Students’ levels and fundamental basketball skills will be assessed, with promising prospects being monitored throughout the various stages of the program.
The monitoring and selection process will continue throughout the year, culminating in the selection of a group of talented students from the participating schools. Selected students will join training programs organized by the Qatar Basketball Federation, designed to develop their technical and physical abilities, strengthen teamwork skills, and provide a structured pathway for continued growth in basketball.
The program will conclude with a tournament scheduled for next April, bringing together students selected through the talent identification initiative. The event will offer participants an opportunity to compete and apply the skills acquired throughout the training stages. The top three teams or participants will be honored at the conclusion of the tournament.
This initiative forms part of Qatar’s preparations to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 and aligns with the Qatar Basketball Federation’s strategy to expand grassroots participation in basketball, strengthen the sport’s presence in schools, and identify local talent at an early age. These efforts aim to nurture a new generation of players and support the continued development of basketball in Qatar.
