Qatar’s 3×3 basketball national team secured the silver medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, following an impressive campaign that saw the team reach the final while maintaining an undefeated record throughout all its matches prior to the championship game, reaffirming its status among Asia’s elite teams.
Qatar fell to the Republic of Korea in the final by a score of 10-19, earning the silver medal and matching its achievement from the previous edition in Hangzhou 2022, where it also finished runner-up after a narrow 16-18 loss to Chinese Taipei.
The result ensures Qatar’s continued presence on the podium in the 3×3 basketball competition at the Asian Games.
Qatar’s roster for the Aichi-Nagoya Games featured Mohammed Hashem, Hamad Yassin, Nizar Mahmoud, and Mubarak Jama.
The team opened its campaign in Group C with a 10-7 victory over Indonesia, followed by an 18-15 win against Chinese Taipei, before closing the group stage with a 21-15 victory over Bahrain. Qatar topped the group with a perfect record of three wins from three games to advance to the knockout rounds.
In the quarterfinals, Qatar continued its impressive form by defeating Mongolia 18-14, securing its place in the semifinals. The team then overcame Iran 14-11 to book a spot in the gold-medal match.
In the final, Qatar faced the Republic of Korea, which secured a 19-10 victory, leaving Qatar with the silver medal after a campaign highlighted by five consecutive wins across the group and knockout stages.

Another Milestone in a Successful 2026 Season
The Aichi-Nagoya silver medal extends a series of achievements by Qatar’s 3×3 national team during 2026. Earlier this year, the team won gold at the Asian Beach Games in Sanya, defeating Thailand 21-10 in the final, and also captured gold at the 4th Gulf Games in Doha.
Qatar’s 3×3 national team also boasts an impressive international record, highlighted by winning the FIBA 3×3 World Cup title in Moscow in 2014, as well as the FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup title in 2016, reflecting the sustained success of Qatari 3×3 basketball on both the continental and international stages.
With the silver medal in Aichi-Nagoya, Qatar’s 3×3 national team continues to strengthen its presence at the Asian Games after reaching the final in two consecutive editions, adding another medal to its growing list of achievements and reaffirming the continued progress of the sport in Qatar.
