The delegation of the Qatar 3×3 National Basketball Team returned to Doha from Nagoya, Japan, following its participation in the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, where the team secured the silver medal. The achievement marks Qatar’s second consecutive appearance on the Asian Games podium, and the delegation received a warm استقبال at Hamad International Airport in celebration of this continental success.
The delegation included Mr. Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation; Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary General, Director of National Teams, and Head of the Basketball Delegation at the Asian Games; and Captain Yaseen Ismail, Director of Qatar’s 3×3 National Teams. They were accompanied by the technical and administrative staff as well as players Mohammed Hashem, Hamad Yaseen, Nizar Mahmoud, and Mubarak Jama.
Mr. Abdullah Sultan Al-Jaber, Board Member of the Qatar Basketball Federation, was among the first to welcome the delegation upon its arrival at Hamad International Airport. He greeted the players and members of the technical and administrative staff and honored them with flowers in a celebratory gesture reflecting the basketball community’s appreciation of the achievement. The reception was attended by members of the basketball family and the players’ families.
Al-Mughaiseeb: The Achievement Is Dedicated to the Wise Leadership and Sheikh Joaan
For his part, Mr. Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, dedicated the achievement to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, the wise leadership, and H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, in recognition of their continued support for Qatari sport and national teams.
Al-Mughaiseeb stressed that the silver medal represents a valuable addition to the achievements of Qatari basketball and reflects the level reached by Qatar’s 3×3 basketball program and its ability to compete at major continental championships. He praised the efforts and performances of the players and the technical and administrative staff throughout the tournament.
He added that reaching the final of the Asian Games for the second consecutive edition confirms the continuity of development and progress within the national team and reflects the collective efforts made across the basketball system to achieve advanced competitive standards. He emphasized the federation’s commitment to continuing its support for the team in preparation for upcoming competitions.
Al-Mughaiseeb also commended the players for demonstrating strong character, focus, and discipline throughout the tournament. Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary General, Director of National Teams, and Head of the Basketball Delegation at the Asian Games, stated that retaining the silver medal for a second consecutive Asian Games reflects the continued development of 3×3 basketball in Qatar.
He explained that the national team faced strong competition and successfully progressed through various stages of the tournament before reaching the final. He noted that reaching consecutive Asian Games finals is a significant accomplishment and demonstrates the team’s ability to consistently compete among Asia’s elite.
Al-Kuwari acknowledged that the ultimate objective had been to win the gold medal but emphasized that the silver medal remains an important result given the high level of competition at the tournament.
