This accomplishment underscores the team’s dominance and technical stability in recent years.
Al Gharafa’s triumph came despite suffering their first loss of the season against Al Shamal, with a score of 68–72, in a fierce contest that highlighted the competitiveness and progress of the participating teams. Meanwhile, Al Khor defeated Al Adaam 65–56 in the final round of the league, held at halls (1) and (2) of the Qatar Basketball Federation, in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Following the conclusion of the competition, Mr. Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughassib, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, Mr. Abdullah Sultan Al-Jaber, Board Member and Chair of the Women’s Committee, and Mr. Mishaal Al-Maliki, Board Member and Chair of the Media and Marketing Committee, awarded Al Gharafa first place, gold medals, and the championship trophy. In a developmental gesture, Al Adaam was also honored with joint third place and bronze medals, reflecting a clear vision for growth.
The closing day was attended by H.E. Ferdinand Lanstein, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Qatar, who expressed admiration for the technical level and tactical discipline demonstrated by the teams, a sign of the quality of ongoing efforts to develop the sport.
On this occasion, Mr. Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughassib emphasized that the achievement represents a significant milestone in the path of women’s sports, noting that the continuity of strong competitions contributes to raising the quality of play and expanding participation. He stated: “What we witness today is the result of cumulative work and genuine investment in the development of women’s basketball. The clubs have delivered outstanding performances that confirm the promising future of the sport.”
He added: “What stood out this season was the close competition among teams, a healthy indicator of overall progress. We particularly highlight Al Adaam, which provided an important model despite the young average age of its players. The team’s participation aimed to prepare a promising group that will form the nucleus of Qatar’s national team in upcoming international competitions.”
He concluded by affirming that investment in youth categories and emerging talents will remain a priority for the Qatar Basketball Federation: “Al Adaam today is not just a participant, but a project for the national team of the future. Their performance and competitive spirit give us great confidence in the next stage.”
For his part, Mr. Abdullah Sultan Al-Jaber stressed that this season was the most competitive, explaining that technical gaps between teams have significantly narrowed. He added: “This season’s league demonstrated great maturity in collective performance and tactical discipline, reflecting the extensive work within the clubs. We will continue to support this journey to build a strong foundation that serves the national teams.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Mishaal Al-Maliki congratulated all participating teams, praising the technical level displayed throughout the season. He said: “We congratulate Al Gharafa on this well-deserved achievement, and we also commend Al Shamal for their remarkable season and strong competition until the final rounds.
