Qatar Basketball Federation Steps Up Preparations to Host Fifth Qualifying Window Games

Doha, October 1, 2026
The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) continues its preparations to host the fifth window of the second round of the FIBA Asia Qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, while closely monitoring the preparation program of the Qatari senior national team following the conclusion of its participation in the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games and gearing up for its upcoming home fixtures in November.
Qatar will host the Republic of Korea on November 26, 2026, before facing Japan on November 29, 2026. Both games will be played at Al Janoub Hall as part of the Group F competition.
The federation’s preparations for the fifth window come after the conclusion of the fourth window, during which the Qatari national team played two matches. The first was against China at Al Janoub Hall, where China secured an 83-57 victory. Qatar then traveled to Tokyo to face Japan, which won the contest 123-70.
Following the completion of the fourth window, Japan leads Group F with 14 points, level with Lebanon. China occupies third place with 13 points, while the Republic of Korea is fourth with 12 points, followed by Qatar in fifth place with the same tally. Saudi Arabia is sixth with 11 points.
As the host nation of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, Qatar automatically qualifies for the tournament. While its results in the qualifiers are counted, the team is not included in the final standings. Qualification spots are awarded to the top three teams from each group, in addition to the best fourth-placed team across the groups.
