Doha – September 25, 2026:
The Qatar delegation participating in the 20th Asian Games, Aichi-Nagoya 2026, celebrated the strong performance of the Qatar men’s 3×3 basketball team at “Qatar House” in Nagoya.
The celebration was attended by H.E. Mohammed bin Yousef Al Mana, First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee; H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary-General of the Qatar Olympic Committee; Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al Thani, Director of the Sports Sector at the Qatar Olympic Committee; Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Buainain, Director General of the Organizing Committee for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027; Mohammed bin Saad Al Mughaisib, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation; Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, Secretary-General of the Qatar Basketball Federation, Director of National Teams and Head of the Basketball Delegation at the Asian Games; Ahmed Al Darwish, Head of the Administrative Delegation of the Qatar delegation at the 20th Asian Games in Japan; and Yassin Ismail, Director of the National 3×3 Basketball Teams, alongside members of the delegation and the Qatar 3×3 basketball players.
Qatar opened its Group C campaign with a 10-7 victory over Indonesia before defeating Chinese Taipei 18-15. The team completed the group stage with a third consecutive win, beating Bahrain 21-15 to finish top of the group with a perfect record of three victories.
The Qatari team continued its campaign in the knockout stage with an 18-14 victory over Mongolia in the quarter-finals, securing its place in the last four.
The team’s strong run reflects the continued development of Qatar’s 3×3 basketball programme and the efforts of the Qatar Basketball Federation to strengthen the national teams’ presence at major continental and international competitions.
Qatar entered the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after winning the silver medal in the men’s 3×3 basketball competition at the previous edition in Hangzhou in 2022. The squad features Mohammed Hashim, Hamad Yassin, Nizar Mahmoud and Mubarak Jama.
The Qatar Olympic Committee continues to celebrate the achievements of Qatari athletes at “Qatar House” in Nagoya, providing a platform to highlight their performances and recognize their efforts during the Asian Games.
