Doha – March 26, 2026:
The Qatar Basketball Federation has unveiled the new edition of the Basketball League Championship Shield for the 2025–2026 sports season, during a press conference held at the Federation headquarters in Al-Gharafa on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
During the conference, the Federation revealed the redesigned championship shield along with the gold, silver, and bronze medals, as part of a comprehensive development plan aimed at enhancing the visual identity of the league and elevating its competitive value, in line with the ongoing progress of Qatari basketball both technically and organizationally.
The event was attended by Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary-General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Director of National Teams; Mr. Ahmed Yousef Al-Darwish, Assistant Secretary-General of the Federation and Chairman of the Competitions Committee; and Mr. Essam Lotfi, Technical Secretary of the Federation, in addition to representatives of the nine clubs participating in the league: Al-Rayyan, Al-Arabi, Al-Sadd, Al-Ahli, Al-Shamal, Al-Wakrah, Al-Gharafa, Qatar Club, and Al-Khor.
The Basketball League Championship continues to witness wide participation and fierce competition among clubs, with historical records confirming the depth of rivalry and diversity of champions across past decades.
As the current season reaches the “playoff” stage of the semifinals—where Al-Rayyan faces Al-Ahli, and Al-Arabi meets Al-Sadd—attention turns to the identity of the 2025–2026 champion, amid closely matched teams and unpredictable outcomes.
On this occasion, Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Secretary-General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Director of National Teams, affirmed that unveiling the new shield is part of a comprehensive strategy to develop local competitions. He stated: “At the Qatar Basketball Federation, we are committed to continuously developing our competitions in line with global progress in the sport. Launching a new championship shield reflects our dedication to raising the value of the league, strengthening the spirit of competition among clubs, and supporting the preparation of players for the national teams.”
For his part, Mr. Ahmed Yousef Al-Darwish, Assistant Secretary-General of the Federation and Chairman of the Competitions Committee, explained that adopting the new shield design came after a study aimed at presenting a modern identity for the championship. He added: “We ensured that the new shield reflects the history of the Basketball League in Qatar, while incorporating a modern design that suits the current stage. Moreover, this season’s competition system was designed to guarantee the highest levels of fairness and competitiveness through to the final rounds.”
This edition marks the 45th in the history of the championship since its launch in the 1981–1982 season, which saw Al-Arabi crowned as the first champion, beginning a long history of rivalry among Qatar’s basketball giants.
Throughout the league’s history, Al-Rayyan stands out as the record holder with 18 titles, followed by Al-Arabi with 10, Qatar Club with 7, while Al-Sadd, Al-Gharafa, Al-Shamal, and the former Al-Jaish Club each secured 2 titles. Al-Ahli won its sole championship in the 2000–2001 season.
