Doha – January 20, 2026:
The 14th round fixtures of the Second Division in the General Basketball League for the 2025-2026 sports season continue on Wednesday evening, January 21, 2026, with two matches carrying different technical and competitive dimensions. Al Khor will face Al Gharafa, and Qatar Club will take on Al Rayyan, at the Al Rayyan Sports Club Hall.
In the first match, which kicks off at 7:00 PM, Al Khor will face Al Gharafa in a contest where both teams aim to boost their points tally and improve their position in the standings.
Al Khor enters the match sitting in ninth and last place with 14 points, earned from just one win and 12 losses. The team hopes to secure its second victory of the season to restore confidence and narrow the gap with the teams ahead, especially as the decisive stages of the competition draw closer.
In contrast, Al Gharafa occupies seventh place with 18 points, collected from 4 wins and 10 losses. They, too, aspire to emerge with a positive result that strengthens their chances of moving away from the danger zone, benefiting from their relative superiority in experience and squad depth compared to their opponent.
The second match, scheduled for 9:00 PM, pits Qatar Club against Al Rayyan in a fixture that appears markedly different in terms of ambitions and calculations.
Qatar Club sits in eighth place (second-to-last) with 16 points from 2 wins and 12 losses. They are searching for a positive outcome to regain balance and remain within striking distance of improving their position before the end of the Second Division phase.
On the other side, Al Rayyan enters the game atop the overall standings with 27 points, having achieved 13 wins against just one loss. This confirms their strong presence this season as one of the top contenders for the title. They aim to continue their winning streak and assert their dominance ahead of the decisive stages.
This competitive momentum comes amid the implementation of the new “Play-In” system during the current season, which has added an extra layer of excitement to the league. The system grants teams finishing between third and sixth place an additional opportunity to compete for the title, making every match and every point twice as important.
According to the approved format, the Play-In matches will take place on January 31, with the third-placed team facing the fourth in a direct matchup—the winner advances directly to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the fifth- and sixth-placed teams will meet, and the winner of that game will face the loser of the third-vs-fourth match to determine the second team qualifying for the semi-finals.
With the Second Division phase nearing its conclusion, the competition among clubs intensifies—both at the top and at the bottom—due to the close points race and intertwined calculations. This makes the remaining rounds crucial in shaping which teams will advance to the Play-In stage, placing all teams under genuine tests of their ability to handle pressure and achieve their desired objectives.
