Al Gharafa wins Qatar Basketball Cup Title

DOHA, May 01, 2015 – In a festive sport scene, the Qatar Cycling Federation President, HE Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Thani crowned Al Gharafa club as champions of the Qatar Basketball Cup 2015, following their convincing 65-57 victory over rivals, El Jaish in the title clash match held at Al Gharafa Indoor on Thursday.

Amid crowd of fans who filled the venue stands, Both teams showed widely impressive performance, but Al Gharafa was the dominant side to end the match 65-57.
Thursday’s victory braced Al Gharafa sport club to keep Qatar Basketball cup title for the second consecutive year.

French Basketball chief arrives in Qatar

Mohammad Ali Hobash, QBF Assistant Secretary General (right) receives Jean-Pierre Siutat,  MIES-FIBA Central Board Member and President of the French Basketball Federation (FFBB), yesterday in Doha. Siutat is on a four-day visit to Qatar during which he will watch the Qatar Basketball Cup final (tomorrow) and will also visit the country’s sports facilities.      

 

Al Rayyan edge El Jaish to clinch Qatar League title

DOHA: Bolds Demarius Armond yesterday poured in 30 points and managed four assists while Davon James Dominic chipped in with 18 to help Al Rayyan power to Qatar Basketball League title with a hard-fought victory over El Jaish.

Ewing Jr. Patrick Aloysius scored 11 points as Al Rayyan beat El Jaish 78-74 at Al Gharafa Indoor Hall yesterday. Both sides were tied at 1-1 after two games in the best-of-three series.

For El Jaish, Taggart Shawn Larell (20), Watson Boney Harold (18), Abilmona Fadi Hani (14)  and Macklin Vernon Leon (14) managed to reach double figures but Al Rayyan - coached by Koufos Stergios - were not to be denied.

El Jaish, who were dreaming to win the title for the second time since 2007-08, failed to stop the rampaging 15-time champions Al Rayyan.

It was Al Rayyan’s third win over El Jaish in five meetings this season.

Al Rayyan picked up the top prize of QR 600,000 while El Jaish got richer by QR 400,000.

Influential player and captain Musa Yasseen Ismail managed 9 points for the winners.

Rashid Al Khalifa, Vice- President of Al Rayyan, said the club would now up the ante in the remaining part of the season.

“With this win, the boys will be confident for the remaining part of the season,” Al Khalifa said.

“I feel my team is peaking at the right time,” he added.

“This could be the turning part for our side. We could go on an win other titles as well,” he said.

Al Khalifa said the team worked hard in the last two years that it didn’t win the league.

“This has been a different season for us. Our goal was to win the league and we did it,” Al Khalifa said.

“I want to thank the players for the way they battled on not just in this match, but for their role in the entire league,” Al Khalifa said.

“I also thank the backroom staff beginning with the coach. They are heroes in equal measure,” he said.

He dedicated the title win to Rashid Shaikh Saud bin Khaled Al Thani, Chairman of Al Rayyan, and all the members of the Board of Directors and fans of the club.

Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, President of Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), handed over the trophies and medals to the finalists.

Now the teams will prepare for the Emir Cup and Qatar Cup events in the last two months of the 2014-15 season.

Qatar Basketball League - Semi Final Playoffs : Rayyan, Jaish post wins

Dominic Davon scored 27 points and Armond Bolds poured in 26 as Al Rayyan defeated Al Gharafa 93-87 in a thrilling Qatar Men’ League basketball match last night.
At the Al Gharafa Sports Club, Al Rayyan appeared set for an easy victory when they comfortably led their rivals at the end of the first three quarters.
Al Rayyan were ahead 33-20, 56-41 and 74-59 before Al Gharafa staged one of the greatest last-quarter revivals which saw them score a whopping 28 points.
Al Rayyan, on the other hand, were restricted to just 19 but that hardly mattered as they still emerged winners thanks to the lead they enjoyed.
Bolds scored nine field goals, which included two three-pointers, while Davon scored 12 points from three-pointers. Saleem Abdulla and Salem Abdulla chipped in with 13 and 11 respectively for the winners.
For Al Gharafa, Samuel Monroe Jr excelled with 25 points, while Osaro Adako and Saad Abdulrahman had 21 and 18 respectively.
In another match, El Jaish defeated Al Sadd 77-66, thanks in the main to a fine effort from Larell Taggart who scored 25 points.
Leon Macklin (16), Hani Abilmona (13) and Boney Watson (12) also excelled for the winners.
Although just 10 points separated the teams, El Jaish led after every quarter and never let Al Sadd take control of the game.
Tyrone Anderson was the top-scorer for Al Sadd with 23, while Rashad Woods (16), Saeed Erfan Ali (13) also came up with useful contributions.

Qatar wins GCC 3x3 Basketball Championship Title in Bahrain

MANAMA, February 22, 2015 – For the third consecutive time, Qatar national basketball team made a new glory in his history record , by winning the title of the third edition of GCC 3x3 Basketball Championship 2015, following a comfortable 21-14 win over KSA counterparts in the final match held in Manama, Bahrain on Saturday.
Saturday’s glorious victory helped the defending champions, Qatar to retain their title for the third year,  KSA finished in the runners-up place , while the bronze medal went to hosts Bahrain.
The national team made impressive performance in the last crucial matches including the final to pave their way for a  deserving title in  Manama, Bahrain on Saturday.
In a post event release on Saturday, Qatar Basketball Federation President, HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani hailed the team high technical performance and confirmed that the team deserved the  title, following their tangible effort during the prestigious event.
Likewise, the QBF Assistant Secretary General, Mohammed Ali Hobesh and Mr. Saadoun Al Kowari, the QBF Executive Director applauded the team achievement in Manama and urged players to redouble effort in the  upcoming competitions.
The prestigious event brought together 24 teams from all GCC countries including Qatar (two time champions), KSA, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE and Oman.
