Emir Basketball Cup 2013-2014 Starts Today

DOHA, April 01, 2014-The competitions of HH the Emir Basketball Cup will begin on Tuesday. Two matches will be held on the opening day as Al Ahli will take on Al Arabi while Al Rayyan will clash against Al Shamal.

The event features the participation of 10 teams as Al Gharafa, Al Rayyan, Al Ahli, Al Arabi and Al Shamal are pooled in Group (A) while Group (B) includes Al Sadd, El Jaish, Al Khor, Al Wakrah and Qatar.
On the other hand, Gulf Crafts Company was announced as a sponsor for the HH Emir Basketball Cup.

Al Gharafa, Al Rayyan Qualify to Qatar Basketball Cup final

DOHA, March 18, 2014-Al Gharafa and Al Rayyan qualified to the final match of Qatar Basketball Cup.
In the semifinals held in Playoff format on Monday, Al Gharafa defeated Al Sadd 78/69 while Al Rayyan registered a narrow 85/83 victory over El Jaish.
The final match will be held on Thursday.

Al Gharaffa wins Qatar Basketball League Title

DOHA, February 16, 2014 – His Excellency Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani the President of Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) crowned Al Gharaffa team as champions of Qatar Basketball League 2013-2014, following their convincing 78-67 win over Al Sadd in the final match held at Al-Gharaffa Indoor hall on Saturday.

In Saturday’s final , both teams displayed widely - praised performance, with high technical level, where all players showed dazzling potential skills and effort, but Al Gharaffa squad  took advantage to end the match  78-67.
Al Sadd team line-up was consisted of : Dawoud Mossa, Saieed Abdulrahman, Michel, Orfan Saieed, while Al Gharaffa team  line-up consisted of :  Abdulrahman Saad, Wigor Wimanuel, Omar Abdulgader and Lark Thomas.
Saturday’s Title was the first glorious achievement in basketball league for Al Gharaffa team.

Al Gharaffa Advances to Finals over El Jaish

, college: Liberty)  led Gharaffa once again with a strong offensive outing, netting 30 points in a
Game 3 Semifinal win over El Jaish. Al Gharaffa advances to face Al Saad in the  final. Abdulrahman  Saad (183-G/F-96) scored 18 points for Gharaffa, while Manny
Adako
(203-F-87, agency: Court  Al Gharaffa Advances to Finals over El JaishSide, college: Northeastern)
scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. In addition, Omar
Salem
(190-G) contributed 18 points for Gharaffa. In the losing effort, Devan  Downey (175-G-87, college: S.Carolina)  dropped 24 points and newly acquired Nathanel  Johnson (199-F-77, college: Louisville)  scored 17 for El Jaish.

BARCELONA, Spain (FIBA Basketball World Cup) - The Official Draw for the 2014
FIBA Basketball World Cup took place on Monday evening at the Palau de la
Musica Catalana.

Here are the four Preliminary Round groups, which each consist of six teams.

Group A (Granada): 1. Spain; 2. Serbia; 3. France; 4. Brazil; 5. Egypt; 6.
Iran.

Group B (Seville): 1. Philippines; 2. Senegal; 3. Puerto Rico; 4. Argentina; 5.
Greece; 6. Croatia.

Group C (Bilbao): 1. Dominican Republic; 2. Turkey; 3. USA; 4. Finland; 5. New
Zealand; 6. Ukraine.

Group D (Gran Canaria): 1. Slovenia; 2. Lithuania; 3. Angola; 4. Korea; 5.
Mexico; 6. Australia.

In attendance for this milestone event on the Road to Spain 2014 were
distinguished guest including: the Mayor of the City of Barcelona, Mr Xavier
Trias; the President of the High Council of Sport of Spain; the President of
FIBA, Mr Yvan Mainini; the President of the Spanish Basketball Federation, Mr
José Luis Saez; the Secretary General Emeritus of FIBA, Mr Borislav Stankovic;
the Secretary General of FIBA, Mr Patrick Baumann.

Lending a helping hand in the draw procedure were international legends Juan
San Epifanio (‘Epi’) of Spain, Croatia's Dino Radja, Puerto Rico's José
'Piculin' Ortiz and FIBA Hall of Fame inductee Jean Jacques Conceicao of
Angola.

2006 FIBA World Champions Juan Carlos Navarro and Jorge Garbajosa were also
among the more than 500 in attendance, along with Eduardo Kucharski, Jaume
Bassó and Angel González Adrio,members of Spain’s national team at the first
FIBA World Championship in 1950.

They were joined by representatives of the participating team delegations –
including head coaches of a dozen of the 24 teams - as well as members of the
Spanish and foreign media.

About the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup

The first-ever FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place in Spain from 30
August to 14 September 2014.

The Preliminary Round will be played in Bilbao, Gran Canaria, Granada and
Seville (30 August-4 September). The Final Round will take place in the Palau
Sant Jordi in Barcelona and in the Palacio de los Deportes of Madrid (6-14
September).

The FIBA Basketball World Cup, known from 1950 until 2010 as the FIBA World
Championship, is the flagship event of the International Basketball Federation
(FIBA).

The winners of the FIBA Basketball World Cup get to celebrate their crowning
moment by holding aloft the Naismith Trophy, named after the inventor of
basketball, Dr James Naismith.
